The Black Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne recalled in an interview with Metal Hammer, conducted by Kyle Glass and Jack Black, that the famous producer Rick Rubin, who worked with Black Sabbath on their final studio album “13” (2013), heard his famous solo album “No More Tears” and didn’t like it in the early 90s.
The musician told that story when he was asked with which dead or alive musicians he would like to work with. After he mentioned his drummer Tommy Clufetos, he talked about Rubin.
Rubin is famous for working with bands like Beastie Boys, Slayer, Danzig, Metallica, The Cult, Rage Against The Machine and more.
Ozzy Osbourne recalls Rick Rubin didn’t like “No More Tears”
“Tommy Clufetos is my drummer now and he’s a great drummer. That ’13’ album that we did with Sabbath (in 2013, with RATM’s Brad Wilk on drums and Rick Rubin on production), I wasn’t really crazy about that album.”
“Rick Rubin was gonna produce ‘No More Tears’ and in pre-production I said, ‘Do you wanna hear the album?’ and he goes, ‘Yeah.’ He goes, ‘Scrap this and start again.’ That was one of my biggest albums! I mean, Rick’s a good guy. He’s a straight-talker and that’s what I like about it. He doesn’t fuck around,” Ozzy Osbourne said.
As mentioned by Ozzy, “No More Tears” released in 1991 is one of his most successful albums. At the time the record appeared at number 17 on the United Kingdom albums chart and number 7 on the United States Billboard 200.
It has famous songs like the title-track, “I Don’t Want To Change The World”, “Mamma I’m Coming Home” and Hellraiser.
Besides Ozzy, that record had Zakk Wylde (Guitar), Bob Daisley (Bass), John Sinclair (Keyboards), Randy Castillo (Drums) and Michael Inez (Inspiration and musical direction – He didn’t play on the album). The producers were Duane Baron and John Purdell.
