Ozzy Osbourne “deeply honoured” by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination

Ozzy Osbourne has reacted to being included among the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame nominees for 2024, stating he’s “deeply honoured” to be included.

The Black Sabbath singer is nominated alongside Mariah Carey, Oasis, Sinead O’Connor, Lenny Kravitz and more. To be eligible for the accolade, an artist or band must have released their first record over 25 years before. Osbourne released his debut solo album, Blizzard of Ozz in 1980.

This nomination isn’t the first time Osbourne has been honoured by the body. In 2006, Black Sabbath were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Metallica did the honours and performed a cover of ‘Iron Man’ for the occasion.

After now being nominated for his solo works, Osbourne is among a select few that have been nominated or inducted twice. All four members of The Beatles are nominated both as a band and solo musicians, as are Crosby, Stills and Nash. Whether Osbourne will achieve the honour will be revealed in the ceremony later this year.

Talking about the nomination, Osbourne said, “I’m deeply honoured to receive this news from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. To be one of the few musicians who’s being considered for a second entry, now as a solo artist, is something I could never have imagined.”

After leaving Black Sabbath in 1978, Osbourne’s solo career took of quickly as he team were determind to keep him in music and somewhat out of trouble.

Throughout the 1980s and ‘90s, Osbourne was prolific. He released seven albums in those two decades. His last offering was his thirteenth solo record, Patient No. 9, released in 2022.

While Osbourne still keeps himself busy by recording music, doing a podcast with his family and generally remaining a key cultural figure, his health has stopped him from going out on the road.

Earlier this year, the family confirmed that he would never tour again but wanted to perform still, stating, “He won’t tour again but we are planning on doing two more shows to say goodbye as he feels like ‘I have never said goodbye to my fans and I want to say goodbye properly’.”
