Willie Nelson cancels another show last minute amid health issues

Willie Nelson has cancelled another show at the last minute, adding to a string of cancellations related to The Outlaw Music Festival Tour.

The 91-year-old was scheduled to appear at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts, on July 2nd, but his team announced on social media that he would not be performing, and his son, Lukas Nelson, would perform some of his songs in his place.

The statement said: “Willie Nelson is looking forward to seeing everyone in Camden on July 4. He will not be performing in Mansfield today. Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, and Celisse will perform as scheduled.”

Concluding: “In addition, Lukas Nelson and Family, along with some special guests, will once again play his own set that will include Willie’s classics and other songs.”

Nelson has not yet performed on The Outlaw Music Festival Tour, having recently cancelled his first run of shows due to an unknown health issue “on doctor’s orders”. The country legend was scheduled to appear at the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Alpharetta on Friday, June 21st, when it was announced he would be resting up instead.

Nelson’s team shared the news on Instagram, explaining that the musician is “not feeling well” and “has been advised to rest for the next four days”. While this statement left fans feeling concerned, the message reassured them that Nelson “is expected to make a quick recovery” in time for re-joining the tour the following week.

Nelson has been active well into his latter years but has been urged to cancel a number of appearances due to ill health. The Outlaw Music Festival Tour is scheduled to run until the end of September, finishing with a show in Gilford, N.H. Alongside Dylan and Plant, Alison Krauss and Celisse, John Mellencamp, Billy Strings, Brittney Spencer, and Southern Avenue are also billed for selected appearances.

Health permitting, Nelson is set to rejoin the tour on July 4th in Camden, New Jersey.
