Judas Priest kicked off night two of Power Trip’s metal-in-the-desert weekend, and they did it in grand fashion, frontman Rob Halford taking the stage in a silver sequined topcoat. Or maybe it’s a smoking jacket? Fashion was never my strong suit, but the metal… Priest brought it, with the Metal God in prime form at the helm.
As has been the case in recent memory, the band was brought onstage by Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs,” but it meant a little more at this show, as our favorite defenders of the faith stepped in a few months ago to fill the slot originally occupied by Ozzy Osbourne.
“Electric Eye” opened an 18-song set of metal classics, the 90 minutes culminating with the return of original guitarist Glenn Tipton for the three-song encore of “Metal Gods,” “Breaking The Law” and “Livin’ After Midnight.” More footage to come…
