Tommy Lee, the drummer of Mötley Crüe, has shared his most shocking story from spending time on the road with Ozzy Osbourne. The anecdote involves his band having a gross-out battle with the Black Sabbath singer, which got way out of hand, and while it’s previously been documented, a new layer to the tale has now been divulged.
In 1984, the two went on tour together. Given both acts were astronomically famous at this point, all of the gigs were sold out, and a lot of nights on the road were spent partying and getting up to whatever illicit activities come with a Mötley Crüe and Ozzy Osbourne adventure.
Notably, one of those was a challenge to push each other to extreme heights of depravity, where both rock stars would do an act that they thought would top everyone else in terms of grossness.
Famously, Osbourne allegedly once snorted a line of ants to prove that he was the wildest man in heavy metal. Many people were unsure whether this story actually happened; however, it was featured in the Mötley Crüe biopic and has steadily etched itself into rock history. Recently, Lee provided more insight into the event, claiming it was even weirder than the movie portrayed.
“Full-on true,” he said when asked about the incident during an appearance on This Past Weekend with Theo Von, “At that time, it was just kind of a thing – everybody was into [trying to] out-rock star and out-gross somebody out, like out-partying.”
In a bid to flex his outrageous rock star muscles, Osbourne took to the ground of the hotel they were staying in. “So, Ozzy’s wasted,” recalls Lee, “He sees there’s a little trail of ants going all the way to this kid’s popsicle that he left on the ground. And Ozzy looks down and fucking just snorts this line of ants going to the popsicle.”
That’s not the end of the story, though. Given all bands wanted to be perceived as the craziest at the time, Nikki Sixx from Mötley Crüe wasn’t going to take Osbourne’s submission lying down. Seeing him snort the line of ants, he stood up and put forward his own effort for the gross-out contest.
“Nikki is like, ‘Okay. Well, fuck that’. So Nikki pulls his dick out the pool,” said Lee, “This is a hotel. This was, like, the Four Seasons [hotel], I think, in Dallas. And [there were] people, kids, everything. Nikki goes, ‘Fuck that. Watch this’.”
Lee continued, “Nikki goes to pee on the ground, and Nikki’s gonna lick up his own piss to outdo Ozzy.” While this might sound like a valiant effort, it turns out the Prince of Darkness had his own plans, “And Before Nikki could do it, Ozzy fucking beats him to it and licks up his piss. And we’re, like, ‘All right, Ozzy. You win. You win, dude.”
