Patti Newton’s ‘beautiful’ tribute to Olivia Newton-John on the anniversary of her passing

A year on from the tragic loss of entertainment legend Olivia Newton-John, fellow showbiz icon Patti Newton has joined the chorus of voices who have reflected on the Grease star’s life and legacy.

Much like she does when she honours her late husband, Bert Newton, Patti took to Instagram recently where she posted a throwback photo of Newton-John and Bert as they attended the TV Week Logie Awards in 1982.

“I love you both, I honestly love you x,” Patti wrote.

Fans joined celebrities in praising Patti for her touching tribute while fondly remembering Bert and Newton-John.

“Beautiful, poignant photo & memories,” one fan wrote.

“2 absolute legends of the entertainment industry and now beautiful angels in heaven together for eternal life. Dearly loved and missed by all. Hard to believe it’s been a year already since we said goodbye to the beautiful soul ONJ but heaven is better for having them both. Love and strength Patti.”

“It still seems so surreal that they are both no longer walking this earth.”

“Beautiful, Patti! May they both rest in peace,” another wrote.

“Two legends, gone but not forgotten.”

With the one-year anniversary of Newton-John’s passing, Australians are undoubtedly feeling a renewed sense of sorrow after bidding her farewell in 2022.

The entertainment icon died peacefully surrounded by her family at her Southern California ranch, according to her husband John Easterling who announced her passing via social media at the time.

“Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time,” he wrote.

“Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the @onjfoundation.

“Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall.”

Sadly, Patti also was forced to bid farewell to her beloved partner Bert after he passed away on October 30, 2021 at age 83 after a long health battle while undergoing palliative care at a private clinic in Melbourne.

The Australian public and entertainment world mourned the entertainment legend during a state funeral in mid-November.
