Jon Bon Jovi has revealed he’s still unsure whether he’ll be able to tour again after undergoing vocal surgery.
For many years, Bon Jovi was struggling with his vocal cords before eventually having surgery to solve the long-term issue in 2022. While he is working exceptionally hard on the road to recovery, taking the process one day at the time, Bon Jovi knows there are no guarantee that his band will be able to return to the road.
Bon Jovi are set to release their forthcoming album, Forever, on June 7th through BMG, but despite their singer’s wishes, touring remains an unfeasible option at this stage. Although the singer was able to lay down his vocals for the LP, it’s a different proposition to perform them live on a nightly basis in arenas across the world.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, the rock icon discussed his “vocal therapy” and bleakly admitted the situation is now out of his hands, noting, “Nothing else matters until I work on getting better. It’s up to God at this point. I’ve done everything I can do.”
While Bon Jovi has enough money in the bank not to worry about performing live, playing shows is a craft to the singer rather than a pay cheque, stating, “I won’t fake it…. the legacy matters too much.”
On a positive note, Bon Jovi reflected on performing alongside Bruce Springsteen at the MusiCares Person of the Year Awards in February and explained how this had a profound effect on himself. He explained: “When I woke up after that night, it was the first time in a decade the only voice in my head was mine. Fear wasn’t there, doubt wasn’t there. And (my wife) Dorothea texted the kids and said, ‘He’s back!’”
Bon Jovi previously laid out plans to hit the road in 2025, but whether he’ll be able to make his dream become a reality is unknown. During an interview with radio station Mix 104.1 Boston last month, Bon Jovi stated: “I don’t know about a tour. It is my desire to do a tour next year, but I’m just still recovering from a major surgery.”
“Although I’m well on the road to recovery and was able to take my time and do a song a day when I made the record, my need, want, desire is to be able to do two-and-a-half hours a night four nights a week for months on end,” the rock vocalist continued.
