George Michael’s music will seemingly never fade from popularity in the country where he first found success. On the United Kingdom’s charts, the late pop superstar is on the rise, as one of his most famous smashes not only returns, but hits new peaks on several rankings.
“Father Figure” bounces back onto a pair of charts in the U.K. this frame. As the song reappears, it establishes a new best showing on two tallies, proving itself to be not only a longtime favorite among listeners in the nation, but a bestseller once more.
Michael’s tune almost lands in the same position on the two charts it appears on this week. “Father Figure” is a hit yet again on the Official Singles Downloads (No. 71) and Official Singles Sales (No. 73) rosters this time around.
Those are new peaks for the hit single, which was originally released in late 1987. The track served as the fourth promotional tune from his blockbuster album Faith, which helped prove that Michael wasn’t just one-half of Wham, but also a standout star in his own right.
Despite being one of the most celebrated productions in Michael’s discography, “Father Figure” has not spent much time on either of the charts it appears on this frame. The composition has now racked up just four stays on both rosters.
Amazingly, “Father Figure” didn’t debut on either of the two sales charts until 2017, shortly after Michael’s unexpected death on Christmas Day 2016. Following the news of his passing spreading worldwide, purchases and streams of his most familiar tracks soared, helping some of them reach a number of lists—including those established long after the tracks were released and initially became hits—for the first time.
