Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has opened up about his recent mental health problems, which led to him cancelling a scheduled tour of North America.
In 2023, Taylor maintained an incredibly busy schedule. The rock singer released his second solo album CMF2, toured and promoted it relentlessly across the world, which he balanced alongside his commitments with Slipknot.
Taylor was set to begin his month-long jaunt across North America on February 1st in Toronto, which he cancelled last month. The Slipknot vocalist has been sober for many years, but in a new post, Taylor revealed he was close to a relapse, which is a major reason why he cancelled his tour. However, he’s still set to play a small run of shows in Asia in March.
In a video statement posted on Instagram, Taylor told fans: “I, over the last year, have had a complete and utter breakdown of boundaries, mental health, ego, entitlement, the whole nine yards, culminating in a very, very real, very near relapse that… I kind of don’t recognise myself.”
He continued: “So, again, I wanted to address this and just tell people that I needed time to reset, I needed time to start working on my heart and my mind and get straight. The reason I’m keeping the Southeast Asia run, it’s literally four shows, it’s literally a week. I’m gonna see how I do with that and just take it day by day, basically. I’m working on self-care right now, getting the help that I need and surrounding myself with my family.””
Elsewhere in the video, Taylor thanked those who have been supportive, stating: “It’s a long road and I don’t know what’s at the end of it, but I look forward to it. I have gratitude for it, and I hope you can show me some patience.”
Taylor’s tour in Asia is set to begin in Tokyo on March 25th and will conclude in Manila on April 1st.
