Pop legend Cher has shared her dislike for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, telling them to “go you-know-what themselves.”
Despite being eligible for induction into the coveted club since 1991, Cher has been notably absent from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Six decades into her career, the pop icon has never even received a nomination.
As noted in a recent interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cher is one of just two artists to have secured consistent number-one hits across seven decades. Only The Rolling Stones match her record, a band who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame over 30 years ago in 1989.
“It took four of them to be one of me! And I’m not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!” Cher joked, before going on to criticise the organisation for her exclusion.
“You know what, I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars,” she continued, “I’m not kidding you. I was about to say something else — I was about to say I’m not shitting you. I’m never changing my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.”
Though the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame may not have recognised her impact yet, Cher still affirms, “I changed music forever with ‘Believe‘.”
The recent crop of inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included the likes of Rage Against the Machine, on their fifth nomination, and Kate Bush, on her fourth nomination. George Michael and Missy Elliott were also among the inductees, securing their place on their first nomination.
